Usually when you see swan plants they are covered with monarch butterfly caterpillars and if you're lucky some leaves that are rapidly disappearing!Billy and Jack's grandparents have huge swan plants that have leaves, caterpillars AND swans. Aren't they pretty? You could even do an observational drawing of them using these photos. Jan said the swans look really pretty if you pick them and float them in a bowl of water.
If you'd like to find out more about monarch butterflies and swan plants you could go to this site. Many people are fascinated by monarchs, and some of them have started a Monarch Butterfly NZ Trust.
