Why Do Children Go to School?
When children start school in New Zealand they have to be five.
At school you can read, do art, maths and learn to write and play games.
You need to learn these things so if you have a farm when you grow up you will be able to count sheep, money and cash. To drive a motorbike and other farm vehicles you need a licence. If you want to get a licence you need to be able to read and write.
In New Zealand we go to school because it is the law.

Why Do Children Go to School?
In New Zealand you go to school at five and learn the skills you need to be a grown up.
At school you learn the Smarts and things like that. You get to make friends that are the same age as you.
You come to learn and get compliments from the teacher, learn maths, writing, handwriting and art. You need to stop talking and calling out (that’s what teachers hate). You start school at year one and end at year six.
School is a perfect place for learning and making friends. You start at nine and end at three.

Why Do Children Go to School?
We go to school to learn the values, play games with other people and meet people we’ve never met before. We learn to improve our smarts.
At school we increase our upper body strength by climbing the fireman’s pole, and also learn maths, reading and writing. We go to school to do science.
Children go to school at the age of five in New Zealand. In other countries some children go at six or seven.

Why Do Children Go to School?
In New Zealand children go to school when they turn five. At school you make new friends and learn. You should too, because one day you’ll become an adult.
At school you can learn to be self smart, body smart and word smart. You will learn how to be nice and do handwriting correctly. You’ll have fun and meet new friends at school. You’ll need all those things in your head when you get older.
When you turn five it’s the best time of your life because you get to go to school.
School is number one!

Why Do Children Go to School?
Children go to school to learn reading, writing and other things. Also to learn not to suck their thumbs!
They can learn Māori or anything. They can learn handwriting and one million things more!
School is a great community also to play and have fun in.
At school children get better at all the things they will need to get jobs when they’re older – also to make good friends.
