It was a Mystery!

A peculiar thing happened to me this morning. I was out having a walk before breakfast, it was sunny but not particularly warm. As I walked through St James Park I noticed a butterfly lying on the ground. I bent over and gently picked it up. It was dead but still very pretty. It was in good condition, not like some dead butterflies that look very battered and knocked about.
I decided to pick it up and bring it home with me. I carried it very carefully because I knew it was delicate. Sometimes when the wind blew the butterfly seemed to flutter in my hand, but that was just the wind catching its wings. The first time it happened it gave me a fright and I gasped and dropped it on the footpath!

As I got closer to home I went into the dairy to buy some milk. I placed the butterfly on the counter as I paid for the milk and put it in a plastic bag. After I'd loaded up the bag and put the change in my pocket,  I picked up the butterfly again and set off on the last stretch before home.
Just as I turned into our street our neighbours drove by and I waved out to them - not an easy task with two hands full of things. At last I walked up the drive, I was hungry by now and ready for my breakfast. I looked down at the butterfly but it was gone. I couldn't believe that I'd dropped it so close to home. I turned around immediately and walked back the way I'd just come to find my precious treasure.
Do you know I never found it! What a mysterious start to the day!

I hope you're all having some fun in the sun. Jack had a win at soccer. I hope you all had successful games today too.
