Ambulance Officer

Yesterday we went to Room 19 to hear Mr Ohs talk about his job. He is a St John Ambulance officer. As part of his job he goes to car accidents, people’s houses and sports fields, to help injured and sick people and sometimes to take them to hospital. During the February earthquake he was very busy helping injured people.
He brought his ambulance with him. Inside the ambulance we saw a GPS, a stretcher bed, an oxygen mask, a blood pressure measurer, a t.v. screen, and a walkie talkie. Some people got to put a special cuff thing on their finger that told them how much oxygen they had in their blood.
Mr Ohs has many different types of clothing to wear. It is mostly high-vis safety clothing like jackets, vests and a helmet.

The part of his job that he likes the least is having to see sick children because that makes him feel sad. The best of the job for him is helping people when they are not well and solving the problem.
