A Visit from an All Black

Today we had a special visitor in Room Seventeen. He is Tane's granddad and he's called Tane too. He brought some interesting things to show us. There was an All Black jersey with a 2 on the back. That is the number he wore because he was a hooker. We also saw a photo of Tane with Nelson Mandela. It was very exciting when we each got the opportunity to try on his All Black cap.
Tane told us that when he was an All Black they didn't get any money for doing the job. Once he did a tour and he was away from home for four months. During that time they were allowed to make one phone call to home on Christmas day. After 3 minutes someone rang a bell and you had to hang up!
He said one of the main ways you knew if you were doing your job correctly was by reading the newspaper the next day!
