Rocking with Richard!

Richard came and talked about the jobs he has today. Richard's day job is working in a recording studio. Sometimes people want to record sound, it might be a band, an orchestra, or some other group. They come to his studio and his job is to help them make a recording. In this photo he is holding a microphone. When groups come every instrument is given a microphone. The sound from that microphone is collected by a computer. The sound engineer sits at a desk that has a mixer on it. The engineer changes the way the sound that comes from each instrument is recorded. Also in the mixing room there is a producer, that person listens to the sounds and decides what sounds good and what needs to be changed. At different times Richard does different jobs, sometimes he is the sound engineer or the producer. Sometimes Richard will play a musical instrument for a group like the guitar or drums - this job is called a session musician.
The recording studio is a very specialised building. Between each room there are 4 walls, this means people can be playing an instrument in one room and the person next door can't hear them - even the drums!

Richard loves his job - it is his dream job. He gets to do his hobby as a job. The only thing he could think of that he didn't like about it was that sometimes he is away from home for a long time and doesn't get to see Molly and Maria. He works with a guy who is in his band Sleeping Dogs. When Richard plays in Sleeping Dogs he calls himself Rocky. We saw a video of Sleeping Dogs recording a song at the studio and a couple of music videos they have made of songs they have recorded.
